Love can truly be found in the most unexpected places, and it takes many forms—especially in cottage country. But that doesn’t mean true love is limited to a romantic context. There are many ways to express affection at the cottage: between chipmunk and frog, puppy and child, dog and bird, person and fish (classic).
Did you know that chipmunks are largely solitary animals? (Strong, independent chipmunks, doing it for themselves.) But even so, it appears they have a soft spot for frogs. And speaking of matters of the heart, fun fact—wood frogs are able to nearly freeze solid in colder temperatures. They stop breathing, and their hearts stop beating. Then they thaw and restart their heart when the temperature rises. A frog might freeze and thaw several times during one winter, with no damage to any internal organs.
It’s true that there’s a lot of bad stuff out there in the world right now, and it’s hard not to be affected by it all. We’re guessing you’re not a wood frog, so you probably have a little less control over your heart. But chin up, folks, there are still good things to be found.
