This elegant A-frame is a compact forest paradise

There’s no doubt that we love A-frames. We try to write about them every single chance we get. There’s just something so homey yet completely modern about the steep angles, the unusual interiors, and the loft spaces that are sure to abound in peaks and nooks.

This A-frame bordering the Sierra National Forest in California features everything we love about the classic style. The 1,250-square-foot house was built and designed by two hoteliers, who obviously have great taste. The whole cabin was pre-fabricated off-site and then brought to the property in multiple pieces. In all, it took about a year to build the space, which was completed in 2013. From the open floor plan, to the all-wood interiors, to the giant windows and ruby red roof—this is our dream retreat.
