This elegant A-frame is a compact forest paradise

The A-frame cabin is located on 10 acres of forest bordering the Sierra National Forest in California. The spacious property is surrounded by old growth trees, open meadows, and wildflowers. Stacks of logs in front of the house offer easy access for the wood burning fireplace, and look great too.

The main floor of the home is open-concept. Huge windows bring in plenty of natural sunlight—and views of the beautiful surroundings. The house is outfitted with mid-century modern furnishings, like an Eames lounger, a minimalist light fixture, and schoolhouse-style chairs. The old wood-burning fireplace offers a nice antique contrast to the other furniture and will certainly provide warmth on cooler nights. The standout piece, however, is definitely the floating staircase that leads to the sleeping loft.

The upstairs loft has two small bedrooms. Thanks to the all-wood interior and the big window, this bedroom feels like a modern treehouse.

This retreat runs on solar power and has its own well and septic system. The off-the-grid locale means that in the winter, it’s only accessible by snowmobiling. So sure, it might be a bit more challenging to get to once it snows, but just imagine the amazing cross country skiing opportunities!
