Stunning bird photos and videos from the 2023 Audubon Photography Awards

The winners and honourable mentions of the 2023 Audubon Photography Awards have been chosen…and they are spectacular! From dramatic nature shots to adorable feathered moments, this beautiful selection will make your day.

After sorting through 9,000 entries, top prizes were awarded in eight different categories: Grand, Professional, Amateur, Plants for Birds, Youth, Fisher, Female Bird, and Video.

This is the third year since the Female Bird Prize and the Video Prize were introduced. The Female Bird Prize shines a light on the bird gender that often goes overlooked for their lack of colours and frills, while the Video Prize highlights the beauty of birds in motion interacting with their natural environment.

Audubon notes that several of the birds photographed by this year’s winners, including the Dunlin, Short-eared Owl, and Baltimore Oriole, are being threatened by extinction from climate change. Learn more about how birds are being affected by climate change.

The annual Audubon Photography Awards showcases incredible bird photography across Canada and the U.S. To learn more about the organization behind the awards and its work in protecting birds, visit audubon.org.
