Outdoors A newborn black bear sees the world for the first time By Emily Campbell Published: August 26, 2014 Updated: June 5, 2022 share Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on Pinterest Copy Link Cancel There’s something so incredible about watching babies experience the world. Perhaps because it reminds us how we take our exciting and beautiful environment for granted. Wildlife photographer Peter Mather was in the right place at the right time to document a black bear cub emerging from its den for the first time. When asked in an interview what it was like to witness the rare event, he said,”This little guy was curious and cranky, just like a little kid. He scrambled around, tried to climb up to us, but mostly he screamed and cried for an hour, just like any baby.” Always be careful when hiking in the spring to stay clear of bear cubs as, much like humans, their moms can be pretty protective. http://www.petermather.com/ Related Articles The best Christmas tree farms to visit in cottage country this year Outdoors Winter gear to solve all your weather woes Outdoors How to manage an Asian lady beetle infestation Outdoors The origins of 7 wildlife idioms Outdoors
