Pallets are the latest craze in DIY decorating, and for good reasons: they’re cheap (or free) and endlessly useful for just about any project you can think of. Here are seven that we thought were perfect for the cottage, and maybe even your home.
Add four wheels and, if you’re feeling fancy, a glass top, and you’ve got a great portable, industrial-chic coffee table.
It doesn’t get much easier than this: stack pallets in a corner, top them with a futon or cushions, and you’ve got a reading nook. Screw the pallets together for greater stability.
How much simpler could this be? Just don’t use your pallet shoe rack to store your Manolos.
Level space for a chair and a book never goes to waste—and a deck can be relatively inexpensive if you use pallets. But be warned: you need to get pallets that are designed to carry the weight of the people and furniture that will be standing on the deck. Instructions: www.hoosierhomemade.com
You can take the pallet apart and create a sculptural headboard, as we show here, or you can just take a bunch of pallets, screw them to the wall, and put your bed in front of them. You get an interesting effect either way. Instructions www.instructables.com
Whether you choose to go simple, using one pallet, or a little more complicated adding arms, hanging a pallet from your porch adds an instant touch of rustic charm. Instructions: www.sherylsalisburyphotography.com
