Canadian cottagers know that every scoop of Chapman’s ice cream is delicious. Now, the whole world knows it as well. At the recent International Ice Cream Consortium (IICC) conference in Florence, Italy, Chapman’s Salty Caramel Crunch was recognized as the world’s best caramel ice cream.
Lesya Chapman, the brand’s head of marketing, shares why this flavour is the perfect cottage treat. “Our Salty Caramel Crunch ice cream has a rich and complex flavour and texture,” she says. Pair it with a campfire evening, she suggests. “Enjoy it alongside s’mores to add a sweet and savory balance.”
Chapman’s also picked up two other pieces of hardware at the IICC: silver in the cherry cheesecake luxury ice cream category—the company’s Cherry Cheesecake is the first “luxury” ice cream on the market that’s nut free and egg free, says Chapman—and bronze in the most innovative ice cream category for its Cold Brew Coffee flavour.
Do you know the origins of these ice cream flavours?
Mark Marsolais-Nahwegahbow, the founder and owner of Birch Bark Coffee, is overjoyed with Chapman’s IICC success. His coffee is the secret ingredient in the bronze-winning flavour. “There’s a lot of gratitude just being able to work cooperatively with the Chapman family. It’s been around since we were kids and to be able to have an opportunity to add a coffee to their ice cream was phenomenal,” says Marsolais-Nahwegahbow. “And then when I had an opportunity to try it, it was just like, wow, this is coffee ice cream. This is what this is supposed to be like. It was just really neat to see them win.”
Chapman suggests combining Cold Brew Coffee with your morning cup of joe. Literally. “Instead of sugar and cream, I put a scoop of Cold Brew Coffee in my hot drink,” she says. Nothing wrong with eating ice cream in the morning. It’s the cottage!
