For the month of August, Cottage Life will be teaming up with The Carbon Bar to bring a unique dining experience to Toronto. The popular Queen East restaurant will be offering a limited-time, cottage-inspired menu, complete with spins on campfire classics and a rich array of local delicacies. You may be hanging out in a leather booth, but you’ll be able to eat like you’re up north.
Carbon Bar owner and veteran cottager, Yannick Bigourdan, thought the collaboration would be a great way to bring a little bit of lakeside atmosphere to the city: “I liked the idea of creating a playful menu that would be an interpretation of what our chef would cook at a cottage.”
The menu will feature regional favourites like Wolfhead smoked salmon and Niagara peaches, as well as barbecue staples, refreshing salads, and deceptively simple nibbles. Chef Hidde Zomer is particularly excited about the barbecue platter, which comes with Texan-style, house-made jalapeno sausage, and grilled chicken, made with Cottage Life’s own Mesquite spice rub.
The relaxing atmosphere will extend to the bar, where Brendan Piunno will whip up weekend refreshments like the Cottage Life Caesar and Camp Fire Guava Lemonade. The month-long event is also supported by Corona, so you can also opt for a beer or beer-based cocktail with your dinner.
While the menu is the main attraction, The Carbon Bar and Cottage Life will also be running several contests over the course of the month. Patrons will have the chance to enter weekly contests with a chance to win gift cards and Cottage Life swag. They can also enter an Instagram contest to win a grand prize that includes two Muskoka chairs and a year’s subscription to Cottage Life magazine, alongside other goodies.
So, if you can’t make it up to the Kawarthas or Muskoka this summer, make sure you head over to The Carbon Bar for a mini staycation. You can eat your dockside favourite without even battling traffic out of the city.
