The Huntsville dispatch of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have discovered human remains in the woods near Millar Hill Road, located within the Lake of Bays township. The find occurred on Monday, April 19, around 11 a.m. after a member of the public contacted police services.

Police have yet to release information about the person’s identity or the cause of death.

“[The case] is fairly new. It’s only a couple of days old,” said Provincial Const. Jeff Handsor with the Huntsville OPP. “When more information comes to light, updates will be sent out.”

He did confirm that there are active missing person cases in Huntsville and the surrounding Muskoka area but said it’s too early to draw any connections to the discovered remains.

As the investigation continues to progress, Handsor said more details should be released soon.

The Muskoka Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch and assisted by the Forensic Identification Services Unit, is conducting the investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the Huntsville OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
