11 songs for watching a sunset

Coming Down

I’m about to head up to my family cabin for the first time this summer and I’ve spent the last week anticipating all the lake rituals I’ll get to reenact with my friends and family: crib with my grandma in the morning, playing cards for dishes, happy hour on the dock. And while I love all these cabin traditions, I have to admit I have a favourite. It’s when we pick one evening after a long, hot day, when the lake is calm and the sky is clear. We pile into the boat and enlist my sister to drive us slowly around the lake, putting past all our happy neighbours as they tidy up their docks or take one last dip before dinner. And then we stop by the little island in the middle of the lake and just bob there, watching the sun set over the water and slip behind the trees. Sometimes we talk, sometimes we just sit there, dipping our feet in the warm lake and listening to music. Really, it’s my idea of paradise.

So, to wrap up this playlist series on a sunny note, here are 11 songs to play while watching the sun go down, whatever your ritual may be. I don’t know about you, but I’ll be soaking up as many sunsets as I can.
