The winner of the best-timed title for a paint colour goes to Benjamin Moore for their October Mist selection, which was officially announced on an overcast October 13, 2021. West end Toronto residents who’d like to bring a taste of home to the cottage might prefer another shade of green from their 2022 palette: High Park.
Graham & Brown describe their colour of the year, Breathe, as “a soothing mid-blue, perfect for creating calm and peaceful spaces.” That sounds perfect for the cottage. They also have a wallpaper of the year, Midnight, a retro pattern with leafy grasses embossed on a smoky blue background.
BeautiTone's 2022 colour palette is also inspired by calming nature tones. Their pick for colour of the year is Warm Hugs, inspired by "the comfort we’ve been missing; our longing for closeness and touch."
Sico’s selection for 2022 is Cool Current, a grey-green shade that they describe as “sophisticated, grounded, versatile, and highly-adaptable.” Other shades released by Sico for 2022 include something for virtually anyone with Bombay Red, Phenomenal Grey, Blue Ridge, and the purple-hued Royal Velour.
Dulux Paints selected Olive Sprig as their colour of the year for 2022. The sage green tone is described appropriately enough for cottage country as, “reminiscent of nature…emit[ting] a sense of calm and tranquility.” They suggest it’s the perfect shade for a Craftsman-style kitchen or dining room.
Dulux also unveiled three related “colour stories.” The first, called Invaluable, includes this rich, plum-coloured shade named Gooseberry, intended for use in a home theatre, on an accent wall, or in contrast with a lighter, neutral tone.
Dulux’s second colour story, Introspective, includes the cottage-friendly Pine Whisperer, suitable for a home office or used in contrast with dark trim.
Dulux’s Inspired theme seems to be built around exotic locales with names like Aloha, Crushed Pineapple, Coral Silk, and the vibrant Paris Pink.
Sherwin-Williams selected another cottage appropriate name, Evergreen Fog, for their greenish-grey with a hint of blue.
Glidden seems to have pulled one out of the archives with their pick for 2022, Guacamole, which they say is suitable for pretty much any room in your home or cottage. However, we do not recommend serving this guacamole with chips.
