Grandfather builds epic three-storey tree house for his grandchildren

Hewitt, who currently works as a facilities manager at a hospital, ensured that the building was code-compliant, even if it was too small to need a building permit.

Although it was his son that really got him thinking about building the treehouse, Hewitt is a dedicated fan of TV show Treehouse Masters. The luxurious structures created by host Pete Nelson were definitely an influence.

While some of the materials came from Home Hardware, much of the house was built from leftovers from reconstruction jobs. A few things, like the windows, were even picked up at garage sales.

Despite having electricity, the house is still not fully liveable. It's very clear that the structure is supported by four trees—and doesn't have any plumbing.

Hewitt's two grandchildren, and the rest of the family, love the space. They spend many evenings in the tree house during the summer eating dinner, or hosting fun activities.
