Just when you thought there weren’t any more ways to use your old Mason jars, some creative genius comes up with a hundred more equally brilliant, easy-to-do concepts. Whether it’s a delicious treat, a fun gift or a recipe for a wonderful-smelling home, here are nine great reasons why Mason jars should be your biggest accessory this fall.
Pie in a jar
Mason jars are not just for storing spices or homemade jam, you can also use them as individual pie plates. There are endless online recipes detailing the delicious ways you can utilize your Mason jars. You can even make pumpkin cheesecake or chocolate spider web cake. The best part is that you can twist a lid on and save them in the fridge until you're ready to devour them.
Candy corn vases
This is a basic but classic way to turn your Mason jars into festive vases. You can put the candy-corn inspired paint on the inside or the outside of the jar, and then—depending on water resistance—add fresh flowers or dried leaves and barley stalks. A cute little twine bow finishes off the look perfectly. If you want something a little glitzier, try this idea.
This is a great way to utilize those mismatched or oddly-sized jars. There are two ways to create the look: you can use store-bought synthetic leaves or grab some straight off the forest floor. Then simply tie some autumn-hued ribbons or basic twine around the threads, and place a battery-powered candle inside.
Charming candle holders
This decoration looks best in matching Mason jars, but any assortment will work. Similar to the leafy lights, these charming candle holders are perfect for your mantle or as a table centrepiece. Collect or purchase a variety of fall accessories and fill the jar up one-third of the way, completely surrounding the tea light.
These pumpkin jar cups are perfect for a Halloween party, especially if you don’t want to get out your nice glassware. You can use glass paint to add the jack-o-lantern touch or make things simple and use stickers. Lid or no lid, it doesn’t matter—as long as you’ve got a straw!
Caramel apple kit
This is a great party favour for an autumn or Halloween-themed event. Everyone gets their own apple-topped Mason jar filled with caramel and M&Ms (or toppings of your choice). It would also work great for a birthday party; set up candy stations and have the guests fill up their jars with whatever toppings they want on their apples. It also works great for Halloween cookies in a jar.
Autumn in a jar
One of the best parts of fall is the gorgeous smells—cinnamon, pumpkin, toasted apple, the list of spices goes on and on. Infuse your home with these wonderful smells by making this cinnamon-orange air freshener.
If you’ve recently used all your Mason jars in a crafting frenzy, or just happen to be the clumsy type, you might end up with a box full of lids. This is the DIY solution to your problem. Paint all of the jars orange and arrange them in a circle to create a pumpkin (attached by a string), filling the centre with cinnamon sticks. It’s festive and smells amazing. If you’re tired of pumpkins, this idea works great as a wreath, or if you’re feeling lazy you can make an unpainted version, too.
