There’s no better place to relax than the dock. But if you’ve ever stood ankle-deep in squishy mud and algae just to cool off, you’ll appreciate what inspired The Dock Ledge. It’s a clever, adjustable platform that extends from your dock into the water, giving you a clean, stable spot to stand, sit, or soak without ever drifting away. We caught up with the creators to learn how the idea went from a DIY build to a proudly Canadian-made product.
How did The Dock Ledge come to life?
We’re lifelong cottagers who spent most of our summers at the dock. One day while swimming, we came up with the idea to sink a platform at the end of the dock so we could stand in the water without stepping into the muck. That led to a prototype that attached directly to the dock, and neighbours immediately wanted one. From there, we refined the design over several years, working with manufacturers and testing with other cottagers until we had a product we felt was worthy of cottage life.

What makes it different from what’s already on the market?
There are stools and swim platforms out there, but nothing as versatile or user-friendly as The Dock Ledge. It’s easy to install, adjustable to different water levels, and great for standing, sitting, or launching water sports. We’re also working on accessories like a swivel stool, paddleboard brackets, and an umbrella. It’s all about enhancing those moments at the dock.
Why did you choose to manufacture in Ontario?
Canada has more lakes than anywhere else on Earth, so who better to build this than people who understand lakeside living and the cottage lifestyle? Manufacturing locally, in Etobicoke and Gravenhurst, gives us hands-on quality control and stronger partnerships.
How easy is installation?
Installing The Dock Ledge is super simple. It takes about 10 minutes to assemble, and then attaches to your dock with just a wrench and screwdriver. It also collapses for easy off-season storage.

What do you love most about using The Dock Ledge at your cottage?
When we built that first wooden prototype, it was all about creating more of those great cottage memories, specifically at the dock. Feeling like you can be in the water and still be part of the conversation with your family and friends on the dock. Cooling off in the evening while watching the sunset. Or sitting in the water without floating away. Great moments and memories at the dock are what drive us.
