By the Cottage Coach
Winter at the cottage can be intense, but honestly, that’s part of why I love it. I’m not trying to fight the season. I’m embracing it! For me, it’s all about being prepared, so before the first big snowfall, I make sure the firewood’s stacked and my gear is ready to go.
This year, I’m keeping it simple. I’m tackling every winter chore with just one battery: the Greenworks 60V system. It’s the same platform I used all spring, summer, and fall, and it’s still going strong with no gas and no worries. I just grab a battery, click it in, and get to work.
Here’s how I’m making winter maintenance easier (and honestly, more fun) than ever.
Clearing the heavy stuff with the 60V Snow Thrower
When my driveway disappears under a foot of snow, that’s when the 60V Snow Thrower really shines. This is my go-to for big jobs: driveways, long paths to the car, and the turnaround near the shed.
I’ve used it on everything from powder to slushy lake-effect snow, and it doesn’t flinch. I slow my pace a bit for deep drifts, but it powers through every time. And the battery life is way better than I expected, even in the cold.
Compared to a gas model, the difference is night and day. No fumes, no pull-cords, no spills. Just push a button and go. It’s quieter, lighter, and way easier to control. For most cottage jobs, this is all the power you need.
Shedding light on the season with the 60V LED Work Light
By 5:30 p.m., we’re already into dusk. And when you’ve still got jobs to do, good lighting is essential. I’ve used everything over the years: headlamps, flashlights, even old halogen work lights with cords that freeze into the snow. Not anymore.
Now, I grab the Greenworks 60V LED Work Light. This thing is bright, clean, and way tougher than I expected. It fires up instantly, even in sub-zero temps, and the battery life is outstanding.
I’ve used it for everything: lighting the path for guests, stacking firewood in the dark, even throwing some glow on the backyard rink. It’s also a huge upgrade for safety. There’s no tripping over tools or stepping into icy patches you can’t see.
It’s become one of those tools I didn’t know I needed until I had it. Now I don’t go a week without using it.

Powering through porch cleanups with the 60V Snow Shovel
Like any Canadian who deals with heavy snow, when I first heard “battery-powered snow shovel,” I was skeptical. It sounded like a gimmick. But once I fired up Greenworks’ 60V Snow Shovel, I was sold.
This thing is fast. It’s light, it’s super easy to maneuver, and it throws snow way farther than I expected. That makes it perfect for spots where a full-size snow thrower is overkill, like decks, stairs, paths to the firepit, and the walkway between the bunkie and the main cottage.
I used to grab a regular shovel for those jobs, but this cuts the work time in half. No more worries about back strain or repetitive lifting. I just walk it forward, and it chews through the snow.
As a bonus, there are no cords to trip over or unplug mid-job. (I’ve used corded ones before. Never again!)

One battery, one platform, endless possibilities
After using Greenworks tools through all four seasons, I can’t imagine going back. In the past, I had gas cans, cords, oil, and a pile of mismatched chargers. Now? One reliable battery. That’s it.
I’ve even built a little charging station in the shed so I always have a pack ready. It’s cleaner, quieter, and a whole lot more efficient. Plus, I don’t miss trying to remember which fuel mix goes with which tool!
If you’re still on the fence about switching to battery-powered tools, especially for winter, take it from me: give it a shot. These tools are built tough, they actually work, and they make winter feel a lot more manageable. And honestly? They’re just fun to use.
