A simple guide to getting the best cottage surveillance available

If you care about keeping an eye on your cottage to monitor both theft and damage when you’re back in the city, the Vosker V300 Ultimate off-grid security camera is brimming with useful features that go a lot further than you’d expect.

Chief among its useful features for cottagers is the fact that it’s 100 percent autonomous and can run even during power outages or wi-fi downtime, since it uses its own cellular connectivity and power. But that’s just the beginning. The V300 Ultimate also offers motion-activated capture and live-streaming modes, capturing 1080p high-definition video with a 90° wide-angle view, even at night. It’s also ideal for outdoor use in the worst of Canadian winters, and it operates without wires or Wi-Fi, thanks to its 4G LTE cellular network and high-capacity external solar panel. In short, it’s the ultimate off-grid security camera for keeping an eye on your rural property.

But one of the most overlooked features is how simple it is to install and get started. So whether you’re ready to set up your V300 Ultimate or just curious about the ease of installation, here are all the steps you need to get up and running.

Unbox the camera

Inside the box, you’ll find a 32GB micro SD card, micro USB and USB-C cables, a charging cable, a rechargeable lithium battery, mounting hardware, window stickers to enhance your security, and instructions.

Charge the battery

Before you do anything else, charge the battery pack and the external solar panel for 24 hours using the provided power cable before installing the battery in the camera. The battery’s red LED light will turn green once it’s topped up.

Download the app

Using your smartphone or tablet, search for “Vosker” in either Google Play or the iOS App Store. The app will let you control your camera remotely and access its other features and functions. Subscription plans for autonomous monitoring start at $5 per month.

Activate your camera

Open the Vosker app and create an account. Then select “Activate a Camera” and follow the steps within the app to activate your camera, and select the type of surveillance you’ll be using it for. You’ll also receive a confirmation email, so be sure to click the link in your inbox to complete the activation process.

Test your signal

Before you mount the camera anywhere on your property, you’ll need to test its signal strength. Turn on the camera and wait for the signal lights to go from flashing to solid. A solid orange light means you have a fair signal, while a solid green light means you have a good signal. To maximize your signal, try adjusting the antenna or moving your camera to a different spot. You’ll know the signal is working when you see photos or videos in the Events tab of your Vosker app.

Choose your location

To mount your Vosker V300 Ultimate security camera, choose a location that will give you maximum visibility, ideally ten to 75 feet away from whatever you want to monitor. Use a stable surface to avoid motion, and try to position it away from moving tree limbs or other distractions that might lead to false motion detection (try setting the motion-detection sensitivity to “medium” in the Vosker app as a starting point).

Mount your camera

From there, screw one of the mounting ball joints into a stable surface using either the flat mounting plate or wood-screw option, and attach the other to your camera. Then use the double-ended socket to mount the device. For added security, the V-SBOX2 security box protects your camera from theft and damage with a lockable steel case.

Situate the solar panel

To get the most out of the Universal Solar Bank, you should choose a location that allows as much natural light as possible, but try to avoid a spot where direct sunlight will enter the lens. Try to ensure that the solar panel faces south, and tilt it at about 45°.

Embrace the features

You’re now ready to view high-definition photos and videos of your cottage no matter where you roam, including a 24/7 live feed of your cottage with the V300 Ultimate’s live-streaming option. And for troubleshooting or any other help with getting the most out of your Vosker V300 Ultimate off-grid security camera, you’ll find everything you need at vosker.com/support.
