What $500K gets you in Prince Edward County

Only a two-hour drive from Toronto, Prince Edward County is having a moment. Right now, it’s the go-to spot for food and wine excursions. It’s no wonder why the boutique hotel brand The Drake opened their latest outpost in the area in 2014.

However, it’s always been a prime destination for cottagers. According to Monica Klingenberg, Sales Representative at Chestnut Park Real Estate, cottage prices in Prince Edward County fluctuate between $200,000 to over a million, with a medium price of around $500,000.

“The variables that drive pricing include the type of waterfront,” she explains. On the island county, waterfront properties include those on smaller waterways or open to Lake Ontario. Options range from clear water that’s ideal for boating and swimming, to marshy shorelines perfect for bird watching.

“To some, a cottage is a second home, fully furnished with up-to-date amenities, while for others, it’s a rustic seasonal home on a smaller body of water,” says Klingenberg.

The property at 299B Duetta Road in South Marysburg Ward, certainly falls into the former category. The 24-acre property, south of Picton, is only a decade old and features sprawling lawns, hardwood floors, and a large kitchen with stainless steel appliances. While it’s the perfect family getaway, it could hardly be described as rustic. It’s also located directly on Lake Ontario, with access for both swimming and boating.
