This tiny home in the trees is a truly stylish retreat

Cantilevered over a forested cliff, the two-storey home has panoramic views of the Russian River and beyond. The balcony boasts an outdoor shower, hot tub plus a couple seating areas.

The living space is bright and airy thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors. The floor is made out of cool cork, and the furnishings—like the light grey sofa, bentwood chairs and blonde wood coffee table—are modern design at its finest. The wood stove heats the space and adds plenty of charm.

The kitchen is gorgeous with wood cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and Eames-style dining chairs. The light fixture, which looks like it’s made of wood, matches the cork flooring. Cork is a renewable material and is naturally resistant to mould, mildew, and termites. It’s also a thermal and acoustic insulator, which is always a plus in small homes.

This little nook in the hallway is the perfect place to hang coats and put on shoes. The stairs are also made of cork, but in a slightly different shade than the flooring throughout.

Here’s the principal bedroom, where two large windows allow the beautiful surrounding scenery to seep indoors. The ceiling is panelled in wood, which provides a modern contrast to the white walls.

Here’s a look at the second bedroom. We love the wood accented dresser, the mod mirror, and the metal bed frame. Like the principal bedroom, this space has open views of the Russian River.

The wraparound balcony features this cosy seating spot with a built-in bench. To the left of the door is the outdoor shower, where the homeowners can rinse off after swimming in the river.
