Three ancient barns are combined to create one sustainable home

This isn’t your typical barn conversion. Rather than repurposing the old frame from a single barn and building out from there, London-based architecture studio Liddicoat & Goldhill actually pulled from three different barns and combined the best architectural details from each to create this stunning retreat. The architects used fragments from a series of derelict 18th century buildings in Kent, England, including a threshing barn, a dairy barn, and stables, and then paired them with sustainable materials and technologies.

Christened the Ancient Party Barn, the space is used by two London-based creatives as a holiday retreat and design studio. When the couple is back in the city, they can control the heating, lighting, and security systems remotely. With its perfect mix of historic details and modern flourishes, this home represents the best of the old and new worlds.
