This striking retreat blends perfectly into its natural setting

The manmade pond was expanded so it looks as if the house is floating on water. The expansive windows and glass walls keep the homeowners connected to the beautiful scenery even when they’re indoors. They regularly see ducks, racoons, frogs, rainbow trout, and coyotes in and around the pond.

Inside, the open layout feels cozy thanks to warm-toned wood ceilings, walls, and floor. Since the house is located on a secluded section of the homeowner’s farm property, they don’t need to worry about covering up the gorgeous glass walls or privacy.

To bring the outdoors in, the homeowners used plenty of natural wood finishes in the living room like the block coffee table, the mantle on the dramatic fireplace, and the gorgeous wall units that hold books and ceramics. On the other side of the living room, behind the fireplace, is the house’s only bedroom.

Here is a look at the bedroom. Rather than a traditional headboard, the large wooden wall panel anchors the bed while also dividing the bedroom from another room. The quilt-style rug adds a pop of colour to the neutral palette.

The kitchen’s cabinetry is in the same wood finish as the wall units in the living room, creating a seamless look throughout. While the rest of the house has hardwood floors, the kitchen has hardworking and easy-to-clean concrete floors.

A small platform-cum-diving board juts out of the living room. For those who’d rather soak in the sun than swim, there’s an outdoor seating area right next to the pond and off the kitchen. 


Here is the bridge that leads to the front door of the house. “The broad vista of the pond becomes visible only upon opening the front door,” according to the architects. “It is the hope that this experience will be memorable to the visit.”
