This charming one-room cabin will bring you back to a simpler time

“One-room cabin” is a phrase that tends to evoke the American south, or perhaps the forest-filled Midwest. What you don’t tend to think of is modern-day New Zealand, but that’s exactly where this cute, one-room cabin is located. The cabin, called Fossickers Hut, was built in a classic pioneer style in tribute to the gold miners who once lived in nearby Canvastown.

With a two singled beds in the loft and a queen beneath, the cabin is best suited for a family of four. While the space is cute and comfortable, it’s also rustic and entirely off the grid. The cabin’s light comes from the sun, while heat comes from a cute pot-bellied stove. There’s an outdoor shower with water heated using gas canisters, and a fire-heated bath right on the front porch.

The cabin suggests visitors truly live as the gold-hunting pioneers once did, entertaining themselves by taking a dip in the nearby swimming hole, or panning for gold with the special pans at the cabin. There are also many trails nearby, as well as plenty of challenges for mountain bikers.

All in all, this cabin seems made for getting away from it all. It’s the perfect place to slow down, get offline, and get lost in the past.
