Creative Cottages designed this tiny cottage, aptly named Ocean Retreat. It was created to be simple, stylish, and comfortable. Built in a nearby warehouse, the on-site construction takes only a few days—perfect for people without much extra time to oversee the building. The neighbours are sure to be happy, too! The bright and spacious interior is cozy and charming—enough to persuade even the harshest critic that tiny housing doesn’t mean living a small life.

Although there’s not a lot of square footage, the cottage’s high ceilings create a bright and airy space that is anything but claustrophobic. The light colours on the walls and fabrics give the space a beachside charm and the built-in shelving provides plenty of organization to keep clutter at bay. The large bed has plenty of room for two, and if you wanted to sacrifice some of the high ceilings, a cute little loft could be built into one corner to provide extra sleeping space.

This full-size kitchen is complete with a stove, sink, hidden refrigerator, and the option to add a dishwasher. The built-in breakfast nook saves space, but still provides a place to sit and eat. The detailed cabinetry blends perfectly with the country décor.

Built inside a warehouse and assembled on-site, it’s hard to believe this charming cottage is less than half the size of most lakeside dwellings. Its abundance of windows, natural stone, whitewashed beams, and small, floral-printed fabrics contributes to the open feel.

The large windows and front and rear doors welcome the sunlight and fresh air, making the outdoors an extension of the space, while the floor-to-ceiling wood-burning fireplace adds some warmth for those cooler nights by the lake.

The bathroom is one of the most unique spaces, with flowing river rock pouring out of the shower. Without an enclosed ceiling, the bathroom opens up to the high beams and natural light. The stone finishes and wood flooring make it feel like a miniature spa retreat.

Mac Lloyd started Creative Cottages with the knowledge that many people are interested in downsizing. "Clients often think that a larger room is more functional and easier to live in," Lloyd says on their website. "But, in actuality, a well-designed, intimate space is always more comfortable." Streamlined, custom-built tiny cottages are the perfect solution to finding your way back to life’s simple pleasures.
