What is involved in removing a hydro box from a cottage property? Can it even be removed?

Make a call to the local hydro office. Whoever is in charge of operations should be able to tell you whether the transformer can be moved or removed. The decision will depend on many factors, including the type of transformer, whether it is on public or private land, and whether power is routed through it to anyone else. If removal is technically feasible, then the utility will do the work—and send you the bill.
