When the folks at Heliotrope Architects were asked to recreate the vibe of an island cottage, the designers set out to create a “barn with a lean-to” on Orcas Island, Washington.
Unfortunately, as these photos show, they missed both the “barn” and “lean-to” targets by a mile. But fortunately, the modern, airy retreat they built is nothing short of spectacular. We love our rustic cabins in the woods, thank you very much, but sometimes it’s nice to stand and gawk at the intersection of high design and cottaging in this 2,200 sq. ft. marvel.
