Q&A: If we don’t have a basement, where should we go during a tornado?

With no option of getting subterranean, you should put as many walls as possible between you and the outside. If there is a small room in the middle of the cottage, such as a washroom, go there; if your cottage is a one-room cabin, get into the centre, as far as possible from exterior walls, windows, and doors, and take cover underneath a sturdy piece of furniture, such as a table. Take advantage of the objects that are already in the middle of the room. Crouch down, and put your arms over your head.

Always keep an eye on the forecast, and never venture on the water if it’s calling for wild weather. When a twister’s coming, things can go from sunny blue sky to black clouds and blowing patio furniture faster than you can scream Auntie Em.
