Watch this lone moose stroll across a frozen Georgian Bay in the early morning

A video of a moose crossing Georgian Bay, Ont., is receiving a lot of attention after being posted in a Victoria Harbour, Ont., community Facebook group earlier this month.

Jon Funston was the lucky viewer who caught the interaction on camera. He was travelling to work, from Sturgeon Bay, Ont., to Honey Harbour, Ont., via snowmobile when he spotted the majestic animal trodding along.

In the video, the moose can be seen making its way across the snowy, frozen ice, near Robin’s Point. The only other object in the video is a wooden fishing hut.

Funston shared in the comments that he waited a day to share the video online to ensure curious onlookers wouldn’t try to locate or disturb the moose.

Since the video was posted on February 1, it has been shared more than 200 times on Facebook and earned nearly 1,000 reactions from other platform users.

A day later, on February 2, the Southern Georgian Bay Chamber of Commerce shared the video to their page as well. There, the post has been viewed nearly 400,000 times, with 3,100 reactions and more than 100 comments.

Many commenters thanked Funston for sharing the video, expressing awe and amazement at the sighting. “You’re so lucky you got to see this (live)!” wrote one Facebook user. “This should be the trailer for Canada,” said another.

Though seemingly rare, moose sightings aren’t entirely uncommon in Ontario. According to a recent post by Ontario Fish and Wildlife, there are approximately 90,000 moose residing within the province’s borders.

It’s said that the spectacular species can often be spotted across the province in areas such as Algonquin Provincial Park, Wabakimi Provincial Park, and Quetico Provincial Park. The species are known to be most active around dawn and dusk.

We hope this moose got to its destination safely!
