Rural dog owners (and often even urban ones) have long known that raccoons can pose a serious threat to the health of their pets—particularly during a rabies outbreak.
So while it’s important for dog owners to be aware of the dangers of raccoon contact, it’s nice to see a domesticated raccoon and golden retriever break the shackles of interspecies enmity and decide to play nice.
In fact, Teddy (the dog) raised Francis (the raccoon) as her own pup after Francis was orphaned as a kit. So what looks like play fighting is actually playful parenting.
