Clip shows daring bear eviction from Alaska mud room

Bear Eviction

Bear encounters are commonplace in Alaska—the state is home to an estimated 100,000 black bears, about a sixth of the total North American population—and some residents have become quite skilled in dealing with their furry neighbours.

This woman Girdwood, a community just south of Anchorage, for example, has a unique strategy to get a young-looking black bear out of her home.

She and the videographer woke up at 5 a.m. and discovered the bear hanging out in their mud room. As you can see from the clip, a combination of acrobatics and loud banging were used to usher the animal back into the wild.

While we wouldn’t recommend that anyone try this strategy at home, we are impressed with how well it worked in this situation. As one commenter observed, this doesn’t seem like the first time the duo has had to lure a bear out of their house.
