The land now known as Canada has changed a lot in the centuries since Europeans first encountered it, and not just socially and culturally. With new immigrants came new species of plants and animals, some of which have been here so long we think of them as “Canadian.” In fact, many familiar plants and animals in Canada are invasive species—creatures that have altered this continent’s natural ecosystem.
