4 things you probably didn’t know about maple syrup

1. Quebec makes almost 75 percent of the world’s maple syrup, and 90 percent of Canada’s supply.

2. The average cost of Quebec syrup is about $38 per gallon: more expensive than gas, beer, or Red Bull.

3. In the summer of 2012, six million pounds of syrup was stolen from the Global Strategic Maple Syrup Reserve; Sony Pictures is planning to make a movie about the heist.

4. The Reserve’s new warehouse in Laurierville, Que., can handle up to 6,080,000 gallons of syrup, enough to fill 11 Olympic-sized swimming pools.
