Via Rail youth passes sold out after temporary suspension

Due to high demand on its website, Via Rail said early Thursday that all $150 youth passes for unlimited travel across Canada In July have been sold out.

The Canada 150 Youth Pass, in celebration of Canada 150, went on sale Tuesday. However, the sales were temporarily suspended due to high demand and technical difficulties with its website.

At about 3:30 on Thursday morning, Via Rail tweeted saying all available passes had been sold.

“Bon Voyage! All the Canada 150 Youth Passes have been sold. 1,867 young travellers will discover Canada this summer,” read the tweet.

An earlier tweet said the sales were being limited to 1,867, which corresponds to Canada’s confederation.

The pass is for young people between the ages of 12 and 25. Students 26 and older, with a valid International Student Identity Card (ISIC) could also purchase it.

In the promotion of the pass announced in February, passengers can travel unlimitedly in July, coast to coast, from Toronto to Vancouver with stops in different provinces.
