After weather like heavy rainfall and storms, bacteria and debris from beaches can wash into the water. Since swimming in or ingesting this water can have adverse health effects, beaches post advisories warning the public to swim only at their own risk. Some advisories are also put in place by local public health institutions for safety reasons, whether due to high wakes, sewage pollution, or the presence of blue-green algae.
Here are the beaches across Ontario with current advisories heading into the long weekend.
