If you’re reaching for a snack this long weekend, watch what you grab for. Frito Lay Canada has announced a recall on some chips due to a potential salmonella contamination.
The company is voluntarily recalling SunChips Harvest Cheddar Flavour Multigrain snacks and Munchies Original Snack Mix due to a notification from a seasoning supplier that one of the ingredients supplied by a third party was potentially contaminated with salmonella. While there was no salmonella in the supply given to Frito Lay, they have decided to recall the chips as a precautionary measure. Frito Lay Canada is working closely to ensure recalled items are removed from the marketplace.
Symptoms of a salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, abdominal cramps, and vomiting. Symptoms typically begin six hours to six days after infection and can last four to seven days. Infants, children aged five years and younger, and adults 65 years or older as well as individuals with weakened immune systems are more likely to have severe infections and should see a doctor if infected.
