Located along Nova Scotia’s beautiful North Shore, Fox Harb’r Resort is an award-winning luxury golf resort with an 18-hole championship course designed by Canadian Graham Cooke, a renowned Golf Hall of Fame architect.

Developed by Ron Joyce, a co-founder of Tim Hortons, who was born and raised in nearby Tatamagouche, Fox Harb’r opened in 2000 and is Atlantic Canada’s only five-star destination resort. The conveniently located Northumberland Shore property—a quick half-hour drive from the Halifax and Moncton airports, although there’s also a 5,000-foot-long jetway for private jet arrivals—attracts local golf enthusiasts and holiday and business travellers alike, thanks to its world-class golf offerings, stunning ocean views, and luxurious 1,100-acre grounds.

 Award-winning golf

There are two golf courses at Fox Harb’r, the 18-hole championship course (Tiger Woods holds the course record!) and an executive Oceanside Par 3 course, where the longest hole is 141 yards—both offer breathtaking views of the rugged shoreline.

The award-winning championship course is a 7,205-yard, par-72 Graham Cooke design that provides two completely different styles of play and a unique change of scenery halfway through. “The course is kind of unique,” says Elliott Isenor, the director of golf at Fox Harb’r. “The front nine is parkland, so it’s more winding through the trees a little bit, and we have some good-sized ponds. And then, once you make the turn, now you’re right on the ocean, staring at Northumberland Strait.” It’s an enjoyable course to play, with stunning vistas from both the fescue-fringed parkland fairways and the Scottish links–style back nine, which overlook the water.

There’s also a full practice facility at the resort, a driving range, and a Golf Learning Academy that offers private and group golf clinics and camps. “You really have the ability to come and spend some time with us and sharpen your skills,” says Isenor.

Maritime hospitality

Ron Joyce famously described the resort as offering “luxury without pretension, in one of the most beautiful places on earth.” At the four-diamond Fox Harb’r, guests have the choice of spacious suites or private custom and townhome accommodations, where you can expect luxurious amenities such as Frette bed and bath linens and heated granite bathroom floors. And, of course, there’s complimentary Tim Hortons coffee.

When you’re not golfing, you’ll want to book a relaxing appointment at the spa or visit the Wellness Centre, with its fitness equipment, Junior Olympic-sized swimming pool, mineral pool, and hot tub. There are also plenty of active recreation activities on offer, including skeet shooting, sea kayaking, horseback riding and fly-fishing. The resort’s sport shooting range is designed by world champion George Digweed, countless seaside and wilderness trails can be explored on foot or by mountain bike, and a private tour of nearby Jost Vineyards is a must-see for wine lovers.

Fox Harb’r offers an ambitious culinary program that is seasonally inspired and features a bounty of fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and an award-winning wine list. The Cape Cliff Dining Room, Atlantic Canada’s first Ocean Wise–certified sustainable seafood restaurant and the most formal dining option on-resort, serves sumptuous farm-to-table and ocean-to-plate dishes, such as local lobster risotto with Acadian sturgeon caviar, and locally raised organic lamb prepared three ways. Many ingredients are sourced from Fox Harb’r’s own garden beds, fruit trees, and two on-site greenhouses, and the resort’s vineyard has plans to release its first private-label vintage in 2019.
