The Picton, Ont. community banded together over the long weekend to conduct an hour-long search for a six-year-old who went missing.

At around 5:30 p.m. on August 6, emergency services received a request for help finding a child who was last seen in the water 30 minutes prior at Sandbanks Provincial Park

After hearing about the search, almost a hundred beachgoers formed a line across the beach and into the water. The child was found safe on the sand a kilometre up the beach 30 minutes later.

OPP Const. Aaron Miller says the community’s response was an incredible outpouring of support.

“I think the fact that it was a child exemplified the significance of the occurrence,” Miller says. “That’s one of the main reasons folks banded together.”
