Dragonfly, kangaroos among Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards finalists

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards have released a list of images shortlisted for the 2021 competition. After receiving hundreds of images from around the globe, the list has been narrowed to 42. Members of the public are encouraged to vote for the image that made them laugh out loud the loudest for the Affinity Photo People’s Choice Awards. Voting is open until October 12, 2021, with winners of the competition being announced on Oct. 22.

This year’s images include a variety of animals including penguins on the beaches of the Falkland Islands and a kangaroo performing a picture-perfect Pavarotti impersonation in Australia.

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards was co-founded in 2015 by professional photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullam who wanted to highlight wildlife conservation by focusing on the humorous side of wildlife photography. 10 per cent of the total net revenue from this year’s competition will be donated to Save Wild Orangutans, a charity dedicated to saving wild orangutans in Borneo.

“The huge number of images we receive every year illustrates the appetite there is to engage with conservation and reminds us that wildlife truly is incredible and hilarious,” said co-founder Paul Joynson-Hicks, “We must do all we can to protect it.”

The finalists will be judged by a panel comprised of wildlife photographers, Daisy Gilardini, Tim Laman and Will Burrard-Lucas, travel editor Neil Stevenson, television presenter Kate Humble, actor and comedian Hugh Dennis, Will Travers OBE, co-founder of The Born Free Foundation, Celina Dunlop, managing director of Serif and the ambassador for conservation, Bella Lack.
