The Ontario government is offering multiple grants to help communities protect and enhance the Great Lakes, the St. Lawrence River, and any connecting channels and watersheds.
First launched in 2012, the Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund provides up to $25,000 per project, totalling $1.5 million. Last year, 80 applicants worked on projects to improve the Great Lakes and its watersheds.
“People know what should be fixed on the shorelines of their hometowns,” said Jim Bradley, Minister of the Environment. “This is why we are providing grants to community groups and organizations that want to help restore and protect the Great Lakes.”
Projects can include anything from planting trees to restore stream banks to improving water quality by managing the flow of storm water runoff.
Applications for the Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund will be accepted until April 26, 2013.
