An Ontario Provincial Police officer is being recognized for his quick actions after he saved the lives of two snowmobile riders who fell into the water on the Bonnechere River near Pembroke, Ont.
On February 24, Const. Jared Moore was out for a walk with his family at Round Lake when he saw two snowmobilers attempting to cross a section of open water near the mouth of the river. While the first rider made it across, OPP say Moore took action when he saw the second rider’s snowmobile plunge into the water.

Moore and the husband made repeated attempts to rescue the female driver who was losing the ability to move in the frigid water. Eventually, Moore was able to pull the husband and wife from the water and deliver first aid until paramedics arrived. The husband and wife were taken to the hospital to be treated for hypothermia.

The off-duty officer went a step further and later picked up the couple from the hospital, drove them back to the lake, and assisted them with loading up the remaining snowmobile that was sitting on the ice.
