Nothing can be done to help deer tangled in garden netting

A deer wandering around the Victoria suburb of Oak Bay is now sporting some unfortunate new antler decor.

The deer was first spotted in the region a few weeks ago. The headgear, residents soon realized, was actually plastic garden netting. The deer caught his antlers in it, and there doesn’t seem to be any easy way to help him out.

Conservation officers said they’d have to tranquilize the animal in order to remove the netting, and that could do the deer more harm than good.

Luckily, reports say that the netting isn’t affecting the deer’s health and doesn’t seem to be bothering him.

Unfortunately, he’ll likely have to wait until spring when he sheds his antlers to get out of this one.
