A little kindness goes a long way, whether it’s a simple deed or a good-natured word—or in the case of this lovely clip, just a warm breath.

Nelson Wilson filmed the sweet encounter on New Year’s morning in Idaho. When he was feeding his horses, he noticed the sparrow frozen to a steel fence close to the horses’ heated water tank. At first, he tried warming the sparrow’s feet with his hands. When that didn’t work, he tried a warm breath. Soon he was able to free the bird, who flew away chirping happily.
