It won’t be news to many drivers that car theft has been on the rise in the last few years. According to a report by the Insurance Bureau of Canada, insurance companies paid out $1.5 billion to replace stolen vehicles in 2023. Between 2018 and 2021, that figure hovered around $556 million annually.

Équité Association recently released an updated list of the top 10 most stolen vehicles in the country.

My parents happen to live in an area that has seen a number of car thefts recently, and my dad has one of the more commonly stolen trucks, so he has been pulling out all the stops to make sure his truck stays in the driveway, including investing in some anti-theft products. Here are some dad- and expert-approved ideas that can help keep thieves at bay. Sure, this might seem excessive, but if it stop you from walking out in the morning to an empty driveway and gives you some peace of mind, probably worth it, right?
