It wouldn’t be a summer at the cottage without spying the red wings of a passing cardinal or hearing the lonesome call of a late-night loon. Birds are as much a part of the cottage experience as boating and bonfires. That’s why we’re featuring this year’s best bird photos from around the world.
The photos are part of the Bird Photographer of the Year 2021 competition, which is now entering its sixth year. Photographers from 73 different countries submitted photos, all competing for the grand prize of £5,000.
“This year, we saw an incredible 22,000 entries into the competition,” said Will Nicholls, director at Bird Photographer of the Year, in a press release. “The standard of photography was incredibly high, and the diversity in species was great to see.”
The winners will be announced on September 1, 2021 at birdpoty.com.
