Health Canada has issued a recall of more than 5,500 heat pumps due to a risk of “excessive heat exposure.”
According to the agency, a power interruption can result in the heat pump overheating when the power turns on, despite it being in cooling mode.
The affected Daikin, Amana, and Goodman-branded heat pumps were sold between May 2022 to April 2024. As of June 13, there had been no reports of overheating or injuries.

The product is also being recalled in the United States, with an additional 56,000 units at risk of overheating.
Daikin Comfort Technologies is remotely updating the software for pumps that are connected to WiFi. The manufacturer says that all other consumers should register for the recall on their website to receive instructions to perform the update.
