Hygge is a Danish word loosely translated into English, describes the phenomenon of feeling cozy and at peace while enjoying the simple things in life. Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) first entered the North American lexicon in 2016 after the publication of The Little Book of Hygge, in which author Meik Wiking writes, “In other words, what freedom is to Americans. . . hygge is to Danes.”

Since then, the charming concept has become an integral part of celebrating the winter holidays. After all, who doesn’t dream of curling up in front of a fireplace, sipping on a warm mug of hot chocolate whilst reading a book, knitting a scarf, or doing a jigsaw puzzle? We’ve created this gift guide for anyone who—especially after the challenges brought on by 2020—could use a little bit more hygge in their lives.
