On May 15, a cottage fire erupted on an island property on Lake Canning in Minden, Ont. The fire began at approximately 11:15 a.m., with firefighters arriving at the scene within 5–6 minutes of the call.

Unfortunately, the cottage structure was destroyed by the blaze, but luckily, its owners were not in the building at the time of the burn. No one was injured during the fire, including any firefighters on the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Minden Hills Fire and Emergency Services.

Cottagers are reminded to continue practicing fire safety while up at the cottage. All cottages should be equipped with working fire alarms in each room/area that are tested every month and at least one working fire extinguisher.
