At the end of last week, there were eight confirmed cases of Canadians suffering from E. coli, linked to frozen hamburgers.
While the latest affected person resides in Saskatchewan, there have also been four cases in Ontario, two in Alberta, and one in Manitoba.
After a recent investigation, The Canadian Food Inspection Agency recalled frozen burgers sold by Canada Safeway Ltd., which were distributed in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and the Northwest Territories.
The recall includes the Gourmet Meat Shoppe Big & Juicy Burger and the Gourmet Meat Shoppe Prime Rib Burger as well as Butcher’s Cut Pure Beef Patties with a best before date of Aug. 14, 2013.
According to the CFIA, testing for E. coli will continue to see if any other products may be contaminated.
Anyone who has already bought the frozen burgers, should be able to return them to the store for a full refund.
