The results are in—Rover.com released their list of the most popular dog breeds in Canada in 2020. Mixed breed came out on top, followed by Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers.
Experts point to the COVID-19 pandemic as a potential reason that the mixed breed rose in popularity compared to 2019. (It was number two last year.) “During stressful times, companion pets provide mental, social, and emotional benefits—regardless of the breed,” said veterinarian Rebecca Greenstein in a press release. “Some Canadians seek out specific traits and breeds, while others are thrilled to adopt a mixed-breed rescue.”
The top 10 breeds are:

3. Golden Retriever
4. Shih Tzu
5. German Shepherd
6. Chihuahua
7. Goldendoodle
8. Yorkshire Terrier
