The Orillia detachment with the Ontario Provincial Police has recovered the body of a person who went missing in Lake St. George.

On April 26, emergency officials responded to reports of a missing person last seen in the water. Orillia OPP, Severn Fire, and Simcoe County paramedics arrived at the scene in Severn Township around 5 p.m.

The OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, with assistance from the Orillia Detachment Marine Unit, recovered the body of the 32-year-old missing person on April 30.

The individual was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say that the victim will not be identified at this time.

Throughout the last month, there have been several water incidents requiring emergency assistance across Ontario.

Police are reminding the public to stay vigilant while around a body of water. Before going out on the water, provincial constable Jonathan Barrett recommends having a fully charged phone, telling a friend where you’re going, monitoring the weather, and checking the mechanical systems on your vessel.

Wear a lifejacket if required by law, and whenever your “skills, abilities, or situation” warrant it, says Barrett.
