Boating experts meet in Muskoka to promote safety on water

The Canadian Safe Boating Council will be meeting several internationally recognized boating safety organizations next week in Gravenhurst to look at ways to reduce boating incidents and fatalities.

Some of the other organizations involved include Transport Canada, the Canadian and United States Coast Guards, and Maritime New Zealand.

Taking place from September 23 to 25, this annual event will foster discussion on best practices and techniques, along with challenges and trends in recreational boating safety.

Event highlights include a panel discussion on future trends in boating, a presentation on the “Challenge of Changing Boaters’ Behaviour” and an on-water workshop and demonstration on cold water rescue and response, which is open to the public. Significant for cottagers who will be heading up north in the winter months, the workshop and demonstration will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, September 24 at the Muskoka Wharf.
