There’s something you can make with bacon that is a little ridiculous and, therefore, delicious: bacon candy. It’s easy too; just watch it carefully near the end of the cooking time.

Bacon Candy

By Martin Zibauer

Deep brown and irresistible, bacon plus caramelized brown sugar makes a tasty snack with drinks. Or cut in small pieces and scatter over ice cream. Seriously. Then watch it disappear.

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lay strips of bacon on a parchment-paper lined, rimmed cookie sheet. Spread brown sugar over strips–be generous, about 2 tsp (10 ml) brown sugar per strip. Bake for 10 minutes, then flip bacon (mushing it around in the melted sugar) with tongs. Return to the oven for 5–10 minutes more. Check frequently; when the bacon is well-done and the sugar is deep brown, remove form oven. Immediately transfer bacon to a wire rack to cool.
