Interested in changing things up at the grill this year? Try one of these well-loved charcoals the next time you fire up the BBQ.

Nature’s Own

This charcoal lights easily, burns well, and has a mild flavour, but with more ash than some others. Sold at Costco (in season) for a very reasonable $12.99 for an 8 kg bag.

Maple Leaf

This Canuck charcoal includes maple, birch, and beech for a sweet-smoky flavour profile. Widely available in grocery, hardware, and barbecue stores. An extremely popular charcoal, $19.99 for an 8 kg bag.

Big Green Egg

This charcoal is made of hickory and oak for excellent smoky flavour. Long-burning lumps produce very little ash, but at a premium price: $37.99 for 9 kg at Big Green Egg dealers.
